STYLE FIX

GUYS, ITS TIME TO 'SWEAT' YOUR WARDROBE.
For sometime now, Sweat shirts has been a staple that has the potential to be transformed into a style savvy shrine with just a few tips. They are versatile, comfortable and classic. Today, we the guiding the guys on how they can incorporate this versatile and iconic wardrobe staple all year round.
The good thing about it is that it can be rocked in any form, whether its official, casual, smart casual or in a street style way. Here are some ways in which you can rock your Sweat Shirt.

1. Casual..
The sweat shirt was made for sports and by default, it was made for casual wear. It is plain, simple and effortless to style, it is the ultimate wardrobe staple for off duty style. For a Sunday stroll or dress down Friday at the office, you can't go wrong with this kind of look. Light wash or faded denim is the best choice for a casual day wear, so lean with your sweatshirt for a laid back, understated look.

2. Smart..
Believe it or not, you can make good your sweatshirt for occasion that demands something a little smarter to. It might not be your first choice but you will be surprised at how versatile that sweatshirt you laze about the house in is really is. When styled correctly, the sweatshirt is a refreshing option for casual wear- if the tone of your office allows it- or a night out on the town.

3. Shirt and Sweater..
When choosing a sweatshirt for a smarter look, its best to stick to darker shades such as navy, black and grey. Layering a shirt underneath and peeping the collar and hem of the shirt out so they are just visible, takes your look from casual to smart just like that.
Teaming with a darker wash denim, or better still a pair of chinos and a formal shoes like the brogue, or a penny loafer will inject a traditional classic twist into your outfit. You can make the look work appropriately by adding a jacket or blazer and just watch because ever body at the office will be doing it.

4. Street Style..
If you are on for a edgier street style, a sweatshirt is the ideal opportunity to get a little creative. Street style is about individuality and expression. So if you thought that your dowdy sweatshirt was reserved for lazy days, then think again.
With a little imagination and the right style advise, you can wear your sweat shirt for every occasion from a casual stroll to an alternative office wear.
So don't think that sweat shirt is strictly reserved for the winter months, here at Style With Alphy, we agree on the fact that sweat shirt can be rocked at any time ,anywhere for any occasion.

 Spot lite Questions..
1. What Inspired you to join this Industry?
The most important interesting thing i have learn about life is that as much as it is easier when you plan it, it never goes as you expect. Drawing close to the end of high school, i started to slowly fall in love with Fashion. First, it was clothes that people wore, then the good pictures they took, then the love they received and then everything. Then i guess one day i woke up and i knew this is the life i wanted to live . I decided to start and never look back.

2. How can you describe your journey so far?
This is definitely the most interesting that i have done i my life. Fashion has opened doors for me that i thought was never possible. For example, last month i had the chance to be part of a panel with fellow Kenyans big wigs like Connie Aluoch, Anyango Mpinga, Diana Opoti, Biko Orlale and Beata Otieno to discuss fashion issues in the country.

3.What is your take on the Kenyan Fashion industry?I am going to look at this from two points of view. Kenyans are appreciating the work of local designers today than in the past which is a positive fete. On the other hand, i don't think brands are yet to discover the power of influences in marketing. But i think we are doing well.

4. What is your take on the widely held perception that Fashion is a gender specific, dominated by Ladies?
Long time ago, style was mainly associated with men because it showed nobility and power. I don't know what changed . Its true ladies are more passionate in that area but men can also strive in that area too.

5. Do you take or plan to take on Fashion as a serious career?
I definitely plan on making Fashion my full time career, so yes.

6. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
As i said before, i hope to transform fashion into a full time career where i can wake up every morning , do what i love and still pay my bills.

7. Briefly describe your Style?
Being a young guy,my style varies as i learn more about myself and what i would like to portray as a brand. But semi-casual for the most part.

8. Who do you look up to in this industry?
So many people. In Kenya i love The Dapper brother's style and Fred Anyona's hard work and consistency.

Style With Alphy will be here to guide our readers on how to live in the right accordance by abiding to the right lifestyle rules and regulations. Through this segment, we will be able to do various reviews whether its in term of food, beauty products etc

Our first topic of discussion on our lifestyle segment will focus on the 'Benefits of Exercise'  which is an important activity of our day to day life. I will relate this topic to a recent retreat that i attended recently with my fellow youths from church. I will narrate my small experience about the activity before dwelling back on the main topic of the day.

The Retreat...
On Wednesday 25th August 2017, I joined my fellow youths from church in attending a youth retreat that was organized by our youth leaders. The main purpose of the retreat was to go out and have fun, enjoy ourselves and clear our minds from the normal day to day activity. As the saying goes, 'Work with no play, makes jolly a dull boy'. We departed at 10.00a.m and by 10.30a.m we had already arrived at our destination. The venue of our retreat was Kolol Riverside Resort which has a very beautiful scenery and a huge field. We did a lot of activities and played different sorts of games as part of exercising.  Everybody including I had such a good time. At the end of the day, my mind was fresh and my body was rejuvenated with more energy.

Exercise is important in our day to day lives but we may not know why or what exercise can do for us. It is important to remember that we have evolved from nomadic ancestors who spent all their time moving around in search of food and shelter, traveling long distance on a daily basis. Our bodies are designed and have evolved to be regularly active. Overtime, people do develop problems if they sit down all day at a desk or in front of the  TV and minimize the amount of exercise they do. Outlined are some of the benefits of exercise:

Benefits...
  1. Exercise increases energy level: It improves both the strength and the efficiency of your cardiovascular system to get the oxygen and nutrients to your muscles. When your cardiovascular system works better everything seems easier and you have energy for the fun stuff in life.
  2. Improves  muscle strength: Staying active keeps muscles strong and joints, tendons and ligaments flexible, allowing you to move more increasingly and avoid injury.
  3. Maintenance of a healthy weights: The more you exercise, the more calories you burn. In addition, the more muscle you develop, the higher the metabolic rate becomes, so you burn more calories even when your not exercise.
  4. It is good for your heart: It reduces LDH cholesterol (the type that clogs your arteries), increases HDL (the good cholesterol) and reduces blood pressure so lowers the stress in your heart. Added to this, it also strengthens your heart muscles. Combined with a healthy diet, exercise lowers the risk of developing coronary heart disease.
  5. It Enhances your immune system: It improves your bodies ability to pump the oxygen and nutrients around your body that are required to fuel the cells that fights bacteria and effects.
There are different types of exercise that you can do in your daily lives. Some of them include:
  • Running
  • Going to the gym
  • Swimming
  • Dancing
  • Aerobics
  • Cycling.
Lack of proper exercise has clearly been shown to be a risk factor for cardio vascular diseases and other conditions: less active and less fit people have a greater risk of developing high blood pressure. Physical inactivity may increase the risk of certain cancers. So to avoid all those risks, it is important for you to proper exercise.
In conclusion, i urge you all our readers to try as much as possible to do proper exercises on your daily lives so as to prevent risks of certain diseases. I hope this article will be of importance to you all. Every Thursday, is a day for us to introduce you to a trendy yet sophisticated lifestyle, keep it tuned to STYLE WITH ALPHY.

STYLE WITH ALPHY'S CAUSE

 TREE PLANTING
Style With Alphy is a Blog with a Cause. It provides for us a platform that enable us to deal with different causes and issues in our society. The Blog brings people together so as to address and tackle such issues. Style With Alphy works hand in hand with Vijana Bila Ukabila to tackle such issues. There are a lot of challenges that we do face in our day to day life in our society. Some of this issues do affect us mostly in a negative way. As a group, we always want to get out of our way and do something in the society as a way of giving back.

On 22nd August 2017 , we visited Mother of Apostle Academy. We had been invited by of their teachers who had earlier requested if we could go and participate in a small activity of planting trees which would later be named after us. We agreed to do it since its a good cause. We were in a group of four. By 3.00p.m, we had already arrived at the school. The teacher was so delighted to see us, she received us warmly. Each of us was given a tree to plant. We all proceeded to where our holes were and planted the trees. We later watered them. It was such a short activity but very enjoyable.

Trees are very important to our lives. It contributes to the environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration , conserving water, preserving soil and supporting wildlife. During the process of photosynthesis, trees take in carbon dioxide and produce the oxygen we breathe. The late Wangari Maathai was always at the front line conserving and protecting our environment, the only way we can keep her legacy alive is to continue with the great work that she began.

Style With Alphy will continue working hand in hand with Vijana Bila Ukabila to ensure that people live in a conducive and well kept environment. We will always engage ourselves with different activities than would enhance our environmental appearance, like planting trees, watering flowers, picking liters in town etc. God created the earth and everything that is in. He instructed man to look after the environment (Genesis 1.28_30). God gave us the authority to rule over everything.

Special thanks to God, Mother of Apostole's administration amd eveyone who turned up to take part in this activity.

There are more causes that we will indulge in as a group. Don't hesitate to join us anytime you want to be part of it.

STYLE FIX

THE BAGGY DENIM
If there is anything you can learn about Fashion is that Oversized everything is in. Oversized sweaters are perfect for winter, oversized sweaters went from lazy day clothing to extremely trendy and weirdly sexy clothing.
Oversized T-shirts have become another word for dresses and the same applies to oversized denims.
Oversized denim jackets have a different vibe from a "regular" denim jackets. The jacket should like they are too big for your body whether they are longer, wider or slouchy.
The big jean jackets that are popular right now look kinda rugged and vintage, but when paired with a certain item, they become stylish for the coolest of casual street style stars.
Layer a big denim jacket over a dress to make it work for any season whether summer or winter. It looks more awesome when they are both at the same length.
Silvia Njoki is here to help the ladies on how they can rock that Baggy Denim Jacket like a street style star.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

ONE ON ONE.
They say, a Dream doesn't become a reality through magic, it takes hard work, sweat and determination. Well, Raphael Caleb Otieno is a young dreamer  who is trying to beat all odds in life and become greater than where his dream takes him. He is a photographer and a model who works hard in his day to day life to achieve his ultimate goal in life. He sat down with Elvis Alphy and opened up to him about his journey so far and talked about his thirst to reach to the top.

We have heard that you go by the name 'PRYNCE', is it your real name?
No, Prynce is not my real name. Its just a nick name that was awarded to me by my mother while growing up. My real names are 'Raphael Caleb Otieno'.

So tell us, Who is Prynce?
Prynce is just a humble guy. He is a photographer, social media influencer and a student from Moi University studying Tourism.

What Inspired you to become a Photographer?
Growing up, i have always been fascinated and in love with pictures. My Dream since i was young was also to become a model. Due to this,i always made frequent visits to photo studios to take pictures and share it through my social media handles. God enough, my friend was a photographer one one day, he requested me to come and assist him in his studio. Boom, just like that, the interest developed more and more and the love grew day by day. Basically, the interest and the passion for photography is from within.

So, do you plan to still pursue you dream of becoming a Model?
Yes, i do plan to pursue it, as i said it has always been my dream to become one. I will work with it alongside photography because the two works hand in hand. As a matter of fact, i will be contesting for Mr Moi next year.

Oh wow, that's great, when will the competition be held?
The competition will be held probably next year February which gives me a humble time to prepare.

Have you ever modeled before?
Yes, I have.

Was it a Competition or a Gig?
It was a gig that i was called upon and i thank God that i was able to manage.

Okay, so between Photography and Modelling, which one do you pay keen interest on?
For now, i am pursuing photography full time but as i said, photography and modelling work hand in hand so eventually, i will just pursue both of them.

How has the journey been so far?
The journey has been great i must say. Photography and Modelling work together and one of them is defendant  to another. Modelling cannot survive without photography and that is why i have been able to manage it because i am able to juggle both of them at the same time and handle it perfectly.
I am perfect at what i do.

Do you face any challenges?
Challenges are there in our daily lives but how we manage it is what defines us. For instance, i get two gigs with very good payments. One to model and another one to be a photographer. This tightens you in a corner because you have to choose what to leave behind and go with the other one because trust me, the phrase that you can kill to birds with one stone cannot apply in this scenario. So that is
one of the biggest challenge that i face.

Who is your Role Model?
When it comes to photography, i look up to McClure. Damn! that guy is so good at what he does.
When it comes to modelling, I look up to Stevens Lowell, that man is just awesome and i want to be like him someday. You should check him out, he is such a great and humble guy.

That's nice, i will defiantly look at him. Great so what are some of the future goals that you have?
One thing is clear, Modelling and Photography is everywhere. The field is so flooded because every one is doing it. But my plan is to get an outstanding taste that describes me and differentiate me from the rest so as to clearly bring me out. I also look forward to work with different designers, model for different fashion houses, shot some of the biggest fashion and modelling events in the world.

Would you say that you get paid well from what you do?
As long as i don't stress my parents to pay for me my personal bills, it is perfect. The little that i get is able to cater for all my needs and i Thank God..

Now that you plan to pursue modelling, we are sure that you pay keen interest in how you look and what you dress, so lets talk a little bit about your style, do you pay keen interest in what you wear?
Haha!!! I just dress to cover my nudity....Just kidding. I critically look at what am putting on. I encounter a lot of people in my day to day life, so how i present my self and how i look sells my brand. Every day, i have to double check what i put.

Haha!! Do you Style With Alphy?
Are you kidding me, I just steal most of my looks and styles from Style With Alphy. There are just of styles that matches what i need in my day to day life.

How can people reach you in case they want to work with you?
They can reach me through my social media handles.

STYLE FIX

                               SUIT YOURSELF.
Guys, its time to 'SUIT YOURSELF'. Your jeans deserve a little break from the normal day to day style. When you are rocking a suit, first of all ensure that your suit jacket fits you well and gives you  a full range of motion both buttoned and unbuttoned.
Look for a suit that fits you well. Whether you are short, tall, fat or thin, choose the one that goes proportionally with your body type. It will look funny when you rock an oversized suit. If you are a shorter person, stick to a single breasted jacket. Doubled breasted jacket can give you a 'drowning_in_fabric' look and make you appear smaller. If you are bigger around the middle, wear a lower buttoning jacket rather than one with a higher placket. It will give you a higher silhouette.
Gone are the days when someone wears an oversized suit.
When rocking a suit, rock it properly. Make sure you button all the buttons on your dress shirt.
NB: For a two button jackets, button the top
       button only.
:For a three buttoned jackets, button the
middle button and the top button if desired.
:However, it is acceptable to not button an of
      the buttons in your jacket.
NOTE: You should never button the bottom most
button  of on your jacket unless at a
             funeral.
Always choose the right accessories for the occasion. White ties are ultra formal, while black ties are formal.
Coloured ties can fit a wide range of occasions, just make sure that it doesn't take away focus fe the overall suit.
Black ties is usually a good color for everything.
Your belt buckle should match other accessories that you are wearing such as a watch.
Be sure to choose a comfortable yet stylish shoes. The whole idea is to make sure that they match the rest of the suit and doesn't cause any unwanted pain during the day or night. Its advisable to match your shoes with your belt color.
So you Guys, you are allowed to borrow a leaf for those days at the office, dinner , meetings or when attending different events and occasions such as weddings, cocktail parties etc.
